We shed tears of sorrow and grief   
her early departure caused disbelief,  
for Maria was bubbly and intense  
how strange to use the past tense.  
 
Always a fighter for her ideas 
a staunch opponent of any bias,  
she shared openly her view  
her friendship made things anew. 
   
We shed tears of joy for a full life,  
for her being a friend, a devoted wife,  
reminiscing of her infectious laughter, 
the way she shared stories and banter.

Remembering our talks and arguments, 
for she was calling a spade a spade.     
Maria no longer is with us, alas, 
albeit her presence will not fade.
